Mogadishu - The port here has been reopened after a three-year closure due to factional rivalries, Somali warlord Ali Mahdi Mohamed said yesterday. The reopening of the Indian Ocean port follows an agreement by Ali Mahdi and his rivals Hussein Aidid and Mohamed Qanyare Afrah to establish a joint authority to run Mogadishu after years of bloody fighting.
