A police officer was injured when he was hit by a stolen car in Belfast this morning.

A police officer was injured when he was hit by a stolen car in Belfast this morning.

The policeman was struck when a stolen Subaru failed to stop on the Glen Road/Monagh bypass. He sustained ankle injuries and a suspected broken thumb, a PSNI spokeswoman said.

Four other officers suffered minor injuries.

Officers had deployed a "stinger" device in a bid to stop the vehicle, but it made off and was later found abandoned.
