BANGUI - African peace-keepers shelled parts of the Central African Republic capital Bangui yesterday where mutinous soldiers are sheltering after four days of clashes, forcing thousands of people to flee, witnesses said.

Residents said tanks and heavy mortars fired on Camp Kassai and southern districts loyal to mutineers who have yet to rejoin their units under a January peace deal.
