If you live in the capital here's your chance to give up yer auld cars and try escaping for a day with the kids by public transport, suggests Victoria White

THE BEST THING about travelling with kids by public transport is that you're not doing the driving. Not only can you pull the kids apart when they're threatening to pummel each other to death, you can look at their faces when they're happy. They like the fact that you're just a passenger like they are; and you may get to like it too, if you can master the art of living in the moment, as they do.

Here are some ideas for day trips by bus and train from the capital. Pack those empty schoolbags with water and goodies and go on a journey.
