Anglesey - A number of women parishioners in Benllech, Anglesey, North Wales staged a protest in support of their former vicar, the Rev Clifford Williams, at a church service yesterday. Several, including Ms Anne Williams, who was cleared by a church court of having an improper friendship with the rector, refused communion from the Bishop of Bangor, the Right Rev Barry Morgan.

The Rev Williams did not attend. He was barred last December from the church he joined as rector in 1982 after he was the subject of a newspaper article. - (PA)
