Palestinian gunmen shot and killed an Israeli motorist driving on a West Bank road outside Jerusalem today, Israeli police and hospital officials said.
They said the 35-year-old motorist died shortly after being shot by Palestinian gunmen firing from the Palestinian town of Beit Jala. The gunmen opened fire at Israeli traffic on a road linking Jerusalem with Jewish settlements in the southern part of the West Bank.
Israeli hospital sources said the man was shot in the head and died shortly after medical staff evacuated him to hospital. His death raised to 385 the number of people killed in a four month old uprising against Israeli rule, most of them Palestinians.
Two Palestinians were wounded by Israeli gunfire in two separate incidents near the Palestinian-ruled town of Bethlehem, Palestinian witnesses said.
