The Irish Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) has called for the cancellation of a play by an Israeli theatre company at the Dublin Fringe Festival.

The Timekeepersis performed by an Israeli independent theatre collective Ocean of Sugar and is set in the Nazi Sachsenhausen concentration camp. Publicity for the play advertises it as being "generously supported by the Embassy of Israel".

The IPSC says this funding is contrary to international demands for trade sanctions and boycotts against the Israeli state.

The organisation noted a call by 106 Palestinian organisations representing Palestinian refugees, Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and Palestinian citizens of Israel to use boycotts, divestment and sanctions against Israel "until it complies with International Law".

In recognition of the worldwide support of the growing movement to isolate and penalise the state of Israel, the IPSC has asked the fringe director, to "either cancel the performances by the Ocean of Sugar theatre group or dispense with the 'generous support' of the Embassy of Israel".
