The Office of Public Works last year spent £55 million extracting itself from rental agreements on 22 buildings formerly occupied by Government Departments which have been decentralised, the OPW has revealed.

Launching the OPW annual report yesterday, the Minister of State at the Department of Finance, Mr Martin Cullen, also revealed that the OPW spent almost £300 million to provide accommodation for Government Departments and offices last year.

One of the biggest projects was the £20 million spent on the extension to Leinster House, which will come on stream in September 2000.
