Washington - Peptides, natural substances produced by the human body, may aid certain medicines to combat breast cancer, according to a study to be published in today's edition of the journal, Science.

Peptides are organic compounds composed of amino acids and play an important role in a number of biological processes. Now scientists say they seem to be able to steer certain medicines directly to the source of the cancerous breast tumors.

In studies, researchers found that two types of peptides, when combined with the medicine Doxorubicin, enhanced the treatment of cancerous human breast tissue that had been grafted onto mice.
