Argentina's David Nalbandian today became the first player in the Open era to reach the Wimbledon men's final on his tournament debut.

The 20-year-old from Cordoba, seeded 28 at the championships, won the final set of his semi-final against Belgian Xavier Malisse 6-2 after it was suspended last night at two sets all.

His 7-6 6-4 1-6 2-6 6-2 victory means he will now play world number one Lleyton Hewitt in tomorrow's men's singles final.

John McEnroe produced the previous best performance by a debutant in the men's singles, reaching the semi-finals in 1977 as an 18-year-old.
