Berlin - Some 35 Greenpeace activists were arrested after demonstrating against the proposed resumption of atomic waste transports in Germany, writes Derek Scally. The protests took place yesterday morning at nuclear reactors in Philippsburg, Stade and Biblis.

About 100 Greenpeace members welded large X symbols to the carriages that transport nuclear waste while a few chained themselves to the containers. Greenpeace said that three of its members were injured by police.
