Williams-BMW technical director Patrick Head has called on Juan Pablo Montoya to use his head if he is to challenge Michael Schumacher for the world championship.

The Colombian has shown flashes of brilliance during his two years in Formula One but has only managed to convert a string of pole positions into one race win.

Despite his obvious speed, Head believes Montoya is still some way off the level of Schumacher and warned him to drive more thoughtfully or risk wasting his talent.

Head said: "I think Juan has enormous talent. I think he's got quite a way to go to be at a level where he could win a championship.

"I'm sure we'll be having some friendly and open talks over the winter with him, because Juan has immense talent and I think it would be very sad if it got wasted.

"But, unless he can apply his very good level of intellect appropriately, he won't achieve the results that I think he should do and is capable of."

Meanwhile, Williams are set to launch their 2003 challenger in Barcelona on January 31st.

The date for the unveiling of the FW 25 at the Circuit de Catalunya is provisional at the moment.

Drivers Ralf Schumacher and Montoya will be hoping the BMW-powered car will mount a stiffer challenge to Ferrari than the 2002 model.
