Mild earthquake shakes central Iran

An earthquake measuring 4.2 on the open-ended Richter scale shook a region in central Iran this morning, the state IRNA news agency reported.

The tremor occurred at 5:07 a.m. (Irish time) and shook the Ghamsar region close to the central city of Kashan, IRNA said, adding there was no immediate report on damage or casualties.

Iran is one of the most quake-prone countries in the world, with mild tremors an almost daily occurence.
