First Division Walsall completed the signing of former England international Paul Merson this morning on a two-year deal.
The 35-year-old, who played an influential role in helping Portsmouth win promotion to the Premiership last season, has decided against making a return to the top flight.
Merson had a year left on his contract with Pompey but has been persuaded by Saddlers boss Colin Lee to return to the West Midlands after a previous spell with Aston Villa.
