GAA: Brian McIver has stepped down as Donegal manager after three years in charge following a meeting with the county board last night.
McIver felt there was a degree of negativity from certain Donegal clubs last week after news of his reinstatement.
It is understood several club delegates made it clear they no longer wanted the Tyrone man in charge. As a result, McIver offered his resignation to the county board at last night's meeting.
The northern province were defeated by Monaghan in the second round of this year's qualifiers after losing to Derry in the Ulster championship.
Since taking over in 2005 McIver enjoyed national league success in 2007, a year after they reached the All-Ireland quarter-final.
In other management news, Seamus McEneaney has been reappointed as Monaghan senior football manager for another year.
