Armagh's Kieran McGeeney has announced his retirement from the inter-county football after 15 years competing at the top level with the Orchard County.
McGeeney's decision to quit comes in light of the former captain publicly expressing his disappointment at how Paul Grimley was overlooked for the county team-manager's role after Joe Kernan stepped down.
Peter McDonnell, who led the county's Under-21 side to an Ulster title this year, succeeded Kernan.
Since making his first senior appearance for the county in 1992, McGeeney captained Armagh to the All-Ireland SFC title in 2002.
McGeeney also represented Ulster in the Interprovincial series, and Ireland in the International Rules series against Australia.
It's understood he will continue to play club football for Na Fianna in Dublin but his retirement could be the first of many with a number of senior players said to considering their future in the inter-county game.
