A team of contractors working for Dundalk Town Council moved on to the site of an apartment complex built by a company linked to Priory Hall developer Tom McFeely early yesterday morning.
After inspecting the site and concluding that the four-storey building is dangerous, the council decided that the work was needed in the interests of public safety.
A spokesperson said the work was carried out under a dangerous structure notice and “the cost will be recouped at a later stage from the owner/liquidator.”
Last month a penthouse apartment in the complex was destroyed by fire.
The Ard Dealgan development is on Quay Street, a few minutes’ walk from the town centre.
It was never fully occupied and the tenants who did move in had to leave it because of concerns from the fire officer.
