Manchester United have finally admitted defeat in their month-long attempt to sign Paolo di Canio from West Ham.
Sir Alex Ferguson had been keen to land di Canio before tonight's Champions League transfer deadline.
However, United today submitted their squad list for the second half of the Champions League campaign and the only alteration was the addition of Diego Forlan for the departed Andy Cole.
This is a tacit admission that United have ended their interest in di Canio.
