A 26-year-old man was shot in the leg yesterday in a so-called "punishment attack" in north Belfast.

He was walking down Antrim Road at 1.45 a.m. when three men pulled up in a car.

The victim attempted to escape down Church Hill Street but the car followed and he was shot in the right leg.

A Families Against Intimidation and Terror spokesman, Mr Vincent McKenna, said the man was the second to be shot by what he termed an IRA "death squad" on Antrim Road in the past few days.
