Man rescued from trawler after severing finger

A man was rescued off the southwest coast early this morning after suffering a partially severed finger.

A man was rescued off the southwest coast early this morning after suffering a partially severed finger.

According to a spokesman for Valentia Marine Rescue, the rescue operation, which began just after 10pm yesterday, saw a crewman taken by helicopter from a Spanish trawler 145 miles west of Slea Head, Co Kerry.

He arrived in Shannon at 6.30am and was transferred to Midwestern Regional Hospital in Limerick.
