A Dublin man who was "high" on cocaine when he stabbed his friend's neighbour four times has been jailed for five years. The "nightmare" attack happened after the defendant and three other men called to the victim's door to settle a long-running dispute.

Francis Maguire (25), of Wellmont Crescent, Finglas, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to the malicious wounding of Mr Patrick Ryan at Coultry Road, Ballymun, on October 10th, 1995.

Judge Frank O'Donnell said that the victim, Mr Ryan, was listening to music with his girlfriend. He was stabbed in the face, neck and buttock. The ultimate nightmare for any man was to be set upon in his own home, castle or house, Judge O'Donnell said.
