The trial has begun at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin charged of a man charged with the murder of a 17-year-old girl from Galway.

Mr Phillip Reddin, originally from Donamore Park, Tallaght, Dublin, now of no fixed abode, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of 17 year-old Niamh Murphy, who was originally from Galway, at a derelict house in Pembroke Road, Ballsbridge on May 10th, 2002.

The court was told today that Ms Murphy's throat was cut with a garden shears after she had been strangled.

A jury comprised of four men and eight women has been sworn in before Mr Justice Paul Carney.
