A 39-YEAR-OLD man has appeared before Cork District Court in relation to 48 charges of theft, deception and forgery which amounted to almost €150,000.

Det Garda Mick Horgan gave evidence of the arrest, charge and caution of Karl McCaughley of Kilmore Woods, Ballinspittle, Co Cork. Judge Olann Kelleher heard Mr McCaughley made no reply when the charges were put to him at Anglesea Street Garda station in Cork at 9.15am yesterday.

The charges relate to offences under section four of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud) Offences Act 2001 and arose following a lengthy Garda investigation. The total amount of money allegedly lost is €142,624. The particulars of the offences were not relayed in court yesterday morning.

Gardaí made no objection to bail and Mr McCaughley was remanded on his own bond of €400.

The judge adjourned the case until September 21st.
