A man has been charged in connection with a fatal assault on a father of two who was found with stab wounds in Passage West, Co Cork, last Thursday night.

Tony Leahy (23), Sirius House, Cork Road, Passage West, was charged in connection with the fatal assault on Jonathan Kenneally Daly (25), when he appeared at a special court sitting on Saturday afternoon.

The State alleged that Mr Leahy assaulted Mr Kenneally Daly and caused him serious harm at Cork Road, Passage West, on January 19th contrary to section four of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.

Garda Martin Lawton gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution and told the special sitting of Cork District Court that Mr Leahy made no reply when the single charge was put to him after caution.

Judge David Riordan refused bail and remanded Mr Leahy in custody to appear again at Cork District Court today.
