A man has appeared before a special sitting of Tullamore District Court charged with the murder of an elderly man in Kilbeggan, Co Westmeath, last month.
Noel Cawley (46) of no fixed address was charged with the murder of Christy Hanly (83).
He was arrested on O’Connell Street in Dublin last Tuesday and questioned at Athlone Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4, Criminal Justice Act.
Mr Cawley appeared before the court at 11.15pm last night. He was remanded in custody to Cloverhill Hill Prison.
