London - Protesting students trying to march to the British parliament were involved in a stand-off with police in riot gear yesterday. About 500 students sat down at Waterloo Bridge and refused to budge until arrests were made.
The confrontation came after about 10,000 students from across Britain descended on central London to march against the introduction of student fees.
