Brussels - The European Parliament's legal commission voted yesterday to lift the parliamentary immunity of French far-right leader Mr Jean-Marie Le Pen over allegations of incitement of racial hatred. EP officials said the allegations covered remarks made by Mr Le Pen in Munich last December. At the time, he was quoted as saying that Nazi gas chambers were "a detail" of history.

In April, the prosecutor's office in Munich asked for Mr Le Pen's parliamentary immunity to be lifted to open the way for a possible indictment for inciting racial hatred.
