The jury in Ireland's first trial for alleged money-laundering has been sent home until next Tuesday, when the trial enters its fifth week.

The case against Ms Maria Bernadetta Jehle and Mr Ernst Gunther Hollman, both of The Priory, Ballymore, Cobh, Co Cork, has now been going on for longer without the jury than with it. Legal argument began two weeks ago and is expected to take up most of today. Judge Patrick Moran, apologising to the jury yesterday, said: "It's a time-consuming matter but I hope you will be able to hear some evidence on Tuesday." The court will not sit on Monday, due to the Tour de France.

The defendants each deny two charges of handling money knowing it was the proceeds of criminal activities by others.
