TWO KERRY brothers were yesterday returned for trial to the Central Criminal Court in connection with the murder of a 30-year-old man in Killarney a year ago.

Gerard O'Riordan (24), of Arbutus Grove, Killarney, was last month charged with the murder of James Brazier at Pinewood Estate on April 15th, 2007. Shane O'Riordan (18), also of Arbutus Grove, has also been charged with murdering Mr Brazier.

Both men were brought in custody to Kenmare District Court yesterday.

The court was told the book of evidence had been served in relation to both accused, and the State's application was to return the men for trial.

Solicitor Padraig O'Connell, defending, said his application for legal aid was for both a senior and junior counsel.

Judge James O'Connor returned the pair for trial to the Central Criminal Court, and remanded them in continuing custody.

The court also heard Shane O'Riordan is facing a number of other charges on various dates prior to the date of the murder charge. These include a charge of assault causing harm to Graham Geasley at Chapel Lane, Killarney, on December 16th, 2006.

The State applied for an extension of time for compilation of the book of evidence on this matter.

Judge O'Connor adjourned the matters to May 20th at Killarney District Court.
