Republic of Ireland captain Roy Keane was today diagnosed as having a torn hamstring and will be out for up to six weeks.

Sir Alex Ferguson had feared as much when Keane was carried off injured during Manchester United's Champions League win over Deportivo La Coruna on Tuesday.

To make matters worse Keane will also undergo a scan on his knee later today and it is feared he will miss this summer’s World Cup, according to a newspaper report this morning.

The Mirrorclaimed United are worried that the Corkman was also suffering from knee trouble that could spell the end of his season and also keep him out of the World Cup in Japan and South Korea.

Yesterday, Stephen Carr revealed that he will miss the World Cup finals after suffering a relapse of a nagging knee injury.
