The Government has appointed Judge Alison Lindsay as the sole member of the tribunal of inquiry into the infection of haemophiliacs with HIV and hepatitis C.

Called to the Bar in 1975, Judge Lindsay was first appointed to the hepatitis C compensation tribunal in 1995.

The tribunal of inquiry comes 14 years after the first recorded case of HIV infection was contracted during a blood transfusion by a Kilkenny health worker. It will try to determine the source of the infection and whether it resulted from imported or local products.
