The dangerous driving case against a 56-year-old man from St Louis, Missouri, in an incident involving a collision with the State car of the Minister for Gaeltacht Affairs Éamon Ó Cuív, was adjourned yesterday at Killarney District Court.
The adjournment was granted after an application by the accused man's solicitor for copies of Garda documents and evidence relating to the case.
John Corbett, West Park Avenue, St Louis, is charged with driving in a manner dangerous to the public under the Road Traffic Acts on November 15th last at Torc, Muckross, Killarney. If convicted, he could face a penalty of up to €2,500 and six months in prison.
Mr Corbett's solicitor, Mr Niall Brosnan, told Killarney District Court yesterday of his application for a copy of Garda statements and evidence against his client.
"My client is from the USA. He was badly injured in the accident. I am not sure if he will be coming over for the case. I would like it to be put in for mention and to fix a date," Mr Brosnan said.
Judge Terence Finn ordered Insp Michael O'Donovan to comply with the order within 21 days.
The judge adjourned the case to April 19th.
