Jackson - Jazz fans were yesterday mourning the death of Vernel Fournier, a New Orleans native who was considered one of the premier brush drummers in the world.
Fournier, who performed with jazz greats Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie and Ahmad Jamal, died last Saturday in Jackson, Mississippi, of complications from a recent stroke. He was 72.
