The legal team representing an Irish language speaker charged with using disorderly behaviour in Belfast are considering applying for a Judicial Review, a court was told today.

Máire Nic An Bháird, 24, from Woodside Walk in Dunmurry, was due to appear in Belfast Magistrate's Court earlier today on the charge with arose from an alleged incident in the Malone Road area of the city in May.

She claims she was arrested for speaking Irish and denies the charge of disorderly behaviour.

At a previous court hearing, a solicitor acting on behalf of Ms An Bháird revealed he had written to the Public Prosecution Service to request that papers relating to the case should be in Irish - something he claimed was a matter for the court's discretion.

Her case was listed to be heard today but her solicitor asked for the case to be adjourned for a fortnight so her legal team could consider whether or not they will apply for leave for a Judicial Review.
