Gardaí arrested two men in Athlone on Saturday night in connection with an aggravated burglary in Co Meath last week.

The men were detained as part of an investigation into a robbery at a home in Hill of Down, Co Meath on Monday, May 16th. A man in his 60s suffered a serious but not life-threatening assault during the incident.

The gang made off with jewellery and a sum of money.

In a follow-up investigation Gardaí carried out a search under warrant at a residential property in the midlands late on Saturday night seizing several items and making two arrests.

The men, aged 40 and 21, were taken to Kells Garda station where they were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 and remain in Garda custody.

The investigations are ongoing.
