Truck shedding bales of hay on M7 delays All-Ireland hurling semi-final

Motorway fully reopens after major traffic congestion near Naas, Co Kildare

The M7 has fully reopened, gardaí said on Saturday evening, after a number of bales of hay fell from a lorry on the motorway near Naas, Co Kildare causing an obstruction to motorists and major traffic congestion.

Hundreds of people travelling from Limerick for that county's clash with Waterford at Croke Park in Dublin were caught up in the traffic jam on Saturday afternoon, causing throw-in for the match to be delayed for half an hour until 5.30pm.

The incident occurred near Junction 10 northbound. Gardaí had advised road users to avoid part of the M7 for a time.

Two lanes had remained open for several hours, and the motorway later fully reopened.
