A four-year-old boy who was trying to avoid being stung by a wasp when he was struck by a car is recovering in hospital.

The young boy was dragged 17 metres by a car at St John's Well in Fair Hill on the northside of Cork city last Friday at lunchtime.

He incurred a number of breaks on his legs and will require skin grafts for superficial head injuries. The boy is recovering at Cork University Hospital.

The driver of the car was not injured. However, he was treated for shock.
