The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will hold a news conference at 6 p.m. (Irish time) to resolve the controversial figure skating decision which has blighted the Winter Olympics at Salt Lake City in recent days.
Jacques Rogge, IOC president, has put pressure on the International Skating Union (ISU) to quickly resolve the dispute over Monday's controversial decision in the pairs competition.
The judges awarded the gold medal to Yelena Berezhnaya and Anton Sukarulidze of Russia ahead of the Canadian pair Jamie Sale and David Pelletier.
Some Olympic sources have suggested the awarding of a second gold medal to the Canadians, seen by most neutrals as deserving winners, would be a way out of the dilemma.
The Canadian Olympic Association has appealed against the judges' decision and taken the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which was due to hold a preliminary hearing at 9 p.m (Irish time) today.
CAS was expected to then call for a full hearing at which the referee and nine judges officiating at Monday's event would be required to attend and answer questions.
CAS has also ordered the judges to stay in Salt Lake City until any eventual appeals are determined.
