Two held over Geoghegan murder freed

Two men were arrested on Thursday in connection with the murder of Shane Geoghegan in Limerick last November, gardaí confirmed yesterday.

The two, aged 28 and 57 years respectively, were later released without charge.

Shane Geoghegan (28) was shot dead on a Limerick housing estate on November 9th by gunmen who mistook him for a gangland criminal they were sent to murder.

One of the men was arrested in the Limerick area while the second was detained in Dublin. A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Man charged with murder

A 21-year-old man has been charged with the murder of man in Limerick two years ago, writes Kathryn Hayes.

Greg Crawford of St Munchin’s Street, St Mary’s Park is accused of killing Gareth Grant (25) on October 8th that year.

He was shot dead outside his home while his partner and three children were inside.

Det Garda Ger Cleary told the court that Mr Crawford gave no reply when he was charged with the murder yesterday morning.

The accused was granted legal aid. Judge Tom O’Donnell remanded Mr Crawford in custody to appear before the same court again on February 4th next.

The Event Guide, a free fortnightly publication on arts, entertainment and cultural events around the country, has been a permanent fixtures in cafes bars and restaurants for almost 25 years.
