The couple, in their 70s, have been named locally as Dan and Teresa Finn.

Their bodies were discovered just after 3pm on Wednesday at their house in the Mount Bruce area of Co Tipperary.

One line of inquiry being explored by gardaí was that the deceased died as a result of gas poisoning, possibly linked to their cooker.

However, gardaí are awaiting the results of toxicology tests.

Gardaí believe the couple may have been in the process of cooking a meal when their deaths took place.

Fishermen's protests continue

Fish will be offered to the public at quayside prices in Galway's Eyre Square, Dunmore East, Co Waterford, and Killybegs, Co Donegal, the federation said.

Hundreds of vessels have been tied up in ports, and several hundred representatives of four industry organisations affiliated with the FIF staged a march to Leinster House in Dublin yesterday.
