Gardaí search for missing Dublin man

Gardaí have sought help in tracing 29-year-old Derek Lynch, who has been missing from his home at Kilwarden Court, Clondalkin, Co Dublin, since last Thursday evening.

Mr Lynch is described as 1.78 metres tall, clean-shaven, of slim build with fair hair.

When last seen he was wearing white Lacoste runners, a black duffle jacket with brown fur on the hood, a navy Jack and Jones pullover with green horizontal stripes and blue jeans. Anyone with information is asked to contact gardaí at Clondalkin 01-6667600.

Price of bread to rise significantly

The price of bread is set to rise significantly in the near future, bread manufacturers have warned. The Irish Bread Bakers Association (IBBA) said their members would seek to recoup increases in the cost of manufacturing, including a 20 per cent rise in the price of flour and a 30 per cent increase in gas prices.

The alternative to price rises was further rationalisation in the industry and job losses, it said.

Students plead not guilty to assault

A jury has been sworn in at the trial of two Dublin students accused of assaulting a man now confined to a wheelchair.

Murray Cummings (21), of Lower Kilmacud Road, Stillorgan and Eoin Hogan (24), of Ballyogan Wood, Carrickmines, pleaded not guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to intentionally or recklessly causing David Fox (23) serious harm at Taney Road, Dundrum, on August 14th, 2002.

They also denied assaulting Mr Fox causing him harm on the same night. The trial is expected to begin before Judge Michael White today.

Sex assault man to be sentenced

A Cavan man who sexually assaulted another man has been remanded for sentence at the Central Criminal Court.

Kevin Reilly (21), of Drumeague, Bailieboro, pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting the victim on March 28th, 2005.

Mr Justice Paul Carney remanded Reilly on continuing bail for sentence on November 20th next and directed the preparation of a victim impact report.

Sisters deny murdering man

Two Dublin sisters have denied the murder of a Somalian man, whose dismembered body was found in the Royal Canal in Dublin last year.

Charlotte Mulhall (23), of Kilcare Gardens, Tallaght, and Linda Mulhall (31), a mother-of-four from the same address, both pleaded not guilty at the Central Criminal Court to the murder of 38-year-old Sheilila Salim (also known as Farah Swaleh Noor) at Richmond Cottages, Ballybough, on March 20th last year.

His headless body was found in the Royal Canal near Ballybough in Dublin on March 30th, 2005.

A jury of six women and six men has been sworn in for the trial of the two women which is due to start on Thursday.

Legal argument in murder trial

The trial of a 17-year-old Dublin youth alleged to have beaten a 20-year-old to death because he was English has gone into legal argument at the Central Criminal Court.

The deceased's body lay undiscovered for two days in a field beside a car park in the Liffey Valley Shopping Centre, where the alleged murder took place after a drinking session.

Kevin Walsh, Allenton Green, Tallaght, denies murdering James Burke at the Liffey Valley Shopping Centre, Clondalkin, Dublin, between September 22nd-26th, 2005. The trial before Mr Justice O'Sullivan resumes this afternoon.
