Luanda - Hundreds of people have been killed over the last few days in Angola, where the 1994 peace accord fell apart in December. Aid workers also said as many as 5,000 people were on the move, displaced by the fighting between government troops and UNITA rebels, close to Uige, the provincial capital.
Other aid workers said UNITA, the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola, had attacked a municipality known as 11th November, close to Sanza Pombo, on Tuesday. The aid workers said the thousands of displaced people who had sought refuge in 11th November were now fleeing because of attacks, putting Uige under enormous strain.
