Hotel fire disrupts Serbia's preparations

The Serbia and Montenegro football team were forced out of bed early this morning after a fire at their Leicester hotel.

The Hilton Hotel was evacuated as a precaution after a small fire in the kitchen but the situation was soon brought under control by the fire brigade.

Serbia and Montenegro face England in a friendly at the Walkers Stadium later tonight.

An FA liaison officer said: "At six in the morning the fire alarm went off, and the entire hotel was evacuated - including the Serbian players, staff and other guests into the car park.

"We were outside for around and hour and 15 minutes and then spent another 30 minutes waiting in the hotel reception before we were allowed back into our rooms.

"The players seemed happy enough and were running around in their tracksuits, and the team management have said it has not caused them too much disruption".
