MAKHACHKALA, Russia - A four hour hostage drama in the southern Russian region of Dagestan ended yesterday when police arrested a gunman who had seized a bus and held 26 people captive at the region's main airport.
Police detained the armed man shortly after he had released the last of the hostages in exchange for the regional military commander, the head of airport police and a driver. The gunman, who was armed with a single use grenade launcher, a grenade, and explosives, surrendered voluntarily.
