A packed Heritage Week: This year's Heritage Week begins today

A packed Heritage Week: This year's Heritage Week begins today. The increase in events - more than 900, including tours, music, storytelling, craft masterclasses and bat walks, among many others - places an emphasis on outdoor events for children and adults.

To honour specific aspects of our heritage, August 27th will focus on our medieval towns for Walled Towns Day, and September 2nd will focus on our rivers, lakes and seas for Water Heritage Day. Most events are free of charge. Heritage Week takes place as part of a joint Council of Europe-EU initiative called European Heritage Days, in which more than 40 countries participate. More information about the Heritage Week programme is available free in local libraries, from tourist offices or heritage officers, or on the website, www.heritageweek.ie
