Migraine group puts art in action:To launch Migraine Action Week 2009, the Migraine Association of Ireland (MAI) will hold a migraine art exhibition to display works by migraineur artists – both professional and amateur.

The exhibition takes place on Saturday, August 29th at the Science Gallery, Naughton Institute, Trinity College, in Dublin.

The event will run from 11am-4pm and entry is free.

Parent and carers series of talks

The Lucena Foundation is holding a series of parent and carers information evenings in the UCD Robing Room, O’Reilly Hall next month.

The first one, Understanding and Managing ADHD in Children and Adolescents, on Tuesday, September 8th, will be given by Prof Carol Fitzpatrick, consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist at the Mater Child Guidance Clinic.

The second information evening will focus on preventing drug and alcohol problems in teenagers and what parents can do and will be held on Wednesday, September 9th.

The speaker will be Dr Bobby Smyth, consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist, Youth Drug and Alcohol Service, Tallaght. He is also a clinical director with the Department of Public Health and Primary Care Trinity College.

Then on Thursday September 10th, Prof Fitzpatrick will give a talk entitled Coping with Depression and Self-harm – A Guide for Parents.

Mindful talks for coping with stress

Well-known lecturer and author Rob Nairn will give a public talk entitled Mindfulness: Peace of Mind amidst Stressat 7pm in Wynn's Hotel on Friday, September 4th.

Nairn will also be giving four other talks at Tibetan Buddhist Centre Kagyu Samye Dzong on the evenings of Tuesday and Wednesday, September 1st and 2nd, at 7.30pm and on Saturday, 5th and Sunday, 6th (10.30am-4.30pm). He will look at how developing mindfulness can help one cope with stress, anxiety, and depression in order to live happily in a busy world.
