BRITAIN: The fathers' rights group linked to an alleged plot to kidnap Tony Blair's youngest son, Leo, is to disband in the wake of the furore over the affair, its founder member announced tonight.

Fathers 4 Justice had earlier said the group was suspending its activities pending an inquiry into the allegations, reported yesterday's Sun newspaper. The group's leader, Matt O'Connor, told Channel 4 News that the group could no longer continue in light of the negative publicity generated by the allegations.

Police foiled the kidnap plan at an early stage and it was unclear whether the people involved had the capability to carry it through.

The threat was uncovered before Christmas while officers were investigating people who had been associated with the fringes of the Fathers 4 Justice (F4J) group.

Mr O'Connor said: "There's evidence to support the fact that there was something going on, because SO13 [ anti-terrorist] officers visited some ex-members of the organisation over the Christmas period. That had set alarm bells ringing."
