A circuit court temporary injunction was granted yesterday in Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, to the Muckno Action Committee against Harinbrook Properties Ltd, a London-based Irish consortium.

The purpose of the injunction is to halt development work at the Lough Muckno leisure park at Hope Castle in Castleblayney.

The committee is objecting to the building of 51 chalets at the lake shore by the developers, who leased the area from Monaghan County Council. It claims that planning provisions were not complied in relation to the scheme. Castleblayney Town Council objected to the planning permission last year, but it was subsequently granted on appeal by An Bord Pleanála. The chairman of the town council, Mr Joseph Brennan, a founder member of the Action Committee, said yesterday the group was requesting the Minister for the Environment and Local Government, Mr Dempsey, to order an investigation into expenditure by Monaghan County Council on the scheme.
