The Government has allocated a €3.65 million grant towards the installation of floodlights at Croke Park.

Work on the project has already started and the first game under lights will be the National Football League game between Dublin and Tyrone on February 3rd.

GAA president Nickey Brennan welcomed the announcement and stressed floodlight instillation was paramount ahead of next year's rugby and soccer internationals at the venue.

Brennan also expressed his delight that Minister for Sport, John O'Donoghue, had "recognised the burden of cost to the GAA in installing floodlighting."
