A lorry driver who claimed he had had helped a neighbour who was being beaten up has been fined £100 for disorderly behaviour.

Samuel Todd (42), Park view, Castledawson, Co Derry, was said to have shouted obscenities at RUC officers who arrived on the scene, Magherafelt Magistrate's Court heard yesterday.

A defence lawyer claimed that Todd had looked out of his bedroom window to see six men beating up his neighbour, who was lying unconscious on the footpath. Todd had gone to the man's rescue but had taken umbrage when he was arrested.
